It’s 3 a.m. Anchored in a cove you’ve never seen.
Something woke you up.
You lie there in the dark.

“Hey Bosun — are we okay?”

“We’re fine, Captain. Ten metres of water. Anchor hasn’t moved in four hours. Wind’s picked up to 18 knots from the southwest. Tide’s rising — one more hour to peak. Bilge is dry. Everyone’s aboard. Go back to sleep.”

That’s what this is.

It knows your crew by name. It watches the boat while you sleep. It remembers every passage, every fuel burn, every squall you rode out. It’s the AI crew member you’ve always wanted — and the first one that actually works on the boat you already own.

And yeah, it’ll turn on the cabin lights. That’s the least of it.

What It Does

Your crew member that never sleeps.

Ask in natural language. Get answers from your actual instruments. Or don't ask — Bosun will tell you when something matters.

Instrument Queries
"What's our depth?" "How's the wind?" "Check the batteries." Anything on your NMEA 2000 network — depth, wind, speed, engine temp, fuel, tanks, voltage — answered in natural language, under a second.
Proactive Monitoring
Bosun doesn't wait for you to ask. Depth shoaling at anchor? It tells you. Barometer dropping fast? It flags it. Voltage sagging overnight? You'll know before the bilge pump does.
Device Discovery & Control
On first boot, Bosun scans your NMEA 2000 bus and figures out what's connected — Fusion stereo, CZone lighting, digital switching, whatever your boat has. Then it builds voice commands around it. "Dim the salon lights and play some music."
Voice Identity
Knows who's talking. Captain gets full access. Crew gets crew-level commands. Strangers get nothing. No setup — it learns your voice in 30 seconds.
Passage Intelligence
Planning a crossing? Bosun monitors your route weather, tracks AIS traffic, calculates CPA on approaching vessels, and alerts you to changing conditions. Watch-by-watch briefings. Wind shift warnings. Swell forecasts. It's the crew member standing watch while everyone sleeps.
Maintenance Logbook
"Bosun, log an oil change." Done — timestamped, stored, searchable. "When did we last run the watermaker?" It knows. No more scribbling in a soggy logbook.
Persistent Memory
Bosun learns your boat over time. Fuel burn rates, typical passages, power consumption patterns, anchor drag history. The longer it runs, the smarter it gets. Your boat's institutional memory.
Computer Vision (T2+)
Camera coverage with crew detection, face recognition, and security monitoring. Knows who's aboard and where. Detects motion when the boat should be empty.

Three layers.
Edge-first.

Edge-first, cloud-enhanced. Built for 2,000 miles from the nearest cell tower.

03
Output
Natural voice responses with adjustable personality · Proactive alerts that interrupt when it matters · Unacknowledged alert queue — if you don't respond, it'll mention it next time you talk.
Personality

Not a robot. Your boat's crew member.

Dial the personality from dead serious to full smartass. Bosun adapts to how your crew actually talks.

Personality Minimal
Question: How's the boat?
"All systems nominal. Port engine at 4.87 hours since last oil change. Bilge pump cycled twice, slightly above average. Worth a visual check."
Personality Maximum
Question: How's the boat?
"Oh, the boat's great. The port engine is 13 hours from an oil change I've mentioned three times. The bilge is cycling more than it should. And there's a towel on the lifeline slowly becoming a sail. But yeah. Everything's fine."
Personality Minimal
Question: Should we anchor here?
"Depth 14 feet, tide dropping 3 more. You draw 6. Swinging room is adequate. Wind forecast steady through midnight. Holding ground is sand over mud — good."
Personality Maximum
Question: Should we anchor here?
"Depth is 14 feet, tide's dropping 3 more, and you draw 6. So mathematically, sure. Emotionally? The last time you anchored in a crosswind you invented four new words. Your call, Captain."
Real Conversations

Ask Bosun anything.
Get answers instantly.

These are real questions crew ask — and how Bosun responds. Every answer comes from your actual instruments.

Captain

"What's the depth and is it getting shallower?"

"Depth is 4.2 meters and yes, it's shoaling. You've lost two meters in the last five minutes. Suggest altering course to starboard — the chart shows deeper water to the east."

1.2s · NMEA depth + chart data
First Mate

"How are the batteries?"

"House bank is at 12.8 volts, 94 percent state of charge. Solar's putting in 185 watts. At this rate, you're good through the night without running the engine."

0.8s · NMEA electrical bus
Navigator

"What's that vessel off our port bow?"

"That's the motor vessel Pacific Trader, 180 meters. Making 12 knots on 045. CPA 0.3 miles in 12 minutes. You have right of way but I'd keep an eye on her."

1.4s · AIS + collision calculations
Engineer

"Log that I replaced the port impeller."

"Logged: port raw water impeller replaced at 1,247 engine hours. I've set the next replacement reminder for 1,747 hours or 12 months, whichever comes first."

1.8s · Voice → maintenance log
Guest

"How fast are we going?"

"6.2 knots over ground. That's about 7 miles per hour, for the landlubbers."

0.2s · Instant local response
Captain · Personality Level 8

"Bosun, it's getting rough out here. What do you think?"

"Well, barometer's dropped 6 millibars in the last three hours. Wind's shifted to the southeast and building — 24 knots now, gusting 32. Seas are 8 feet and stacking up. But hey, you wanted a dark and stormy. Now you've got one. I'd suggest a reef in the main and maybe a rum. Not necessarily in that order."

1.6s · NMEA weather + barometric trend + personality engine
Captain · Returning to the boat

"Bosun, who's aboard?"

"Just Max — your golden retriever. He's in the salon, curled up on the settee. Hasn't moved in about twenty minutes. No human crew detected since you left at 14:30, and nobody's come aboard. Everything's quiet. You didn't think I only knew human faces, did you?"

1.5s · Computer vision + crew detection + security log

Leave the boat. Not your guard down.

Voice passcode. Gesture unlock. AI-powered watch. When someone boards who shouldn't be there — Bosun goes silent, starts recording, and alerts you.

Silent Watch Mode
Arm with your voice or a gesture. Bosun goes dark — no lights, no sound, no indication it's watching. But it's watching. Motion detection, face capture, timestamped recording.
Gesture Passcode
Hand landmark recognition via camera. Hold up a sequence — your silent key when voice isn't safe. Works in daylight or cabin lighting.
Voice Firewall
Unrecognized voices get nothing — no instrument data, no controls, no acknowledgment. Unknown faces trigger silent recording. Your boat plays dumb while Bosun plays watchdog.
Setup

One afternoon. Then just talk.

No subscription to start. No app to install. No screen to stare at.

01
Plug in.
Compact hardware connects to your NMEA 2000 backbone through a standard gateway. 12V powered. Fits behind your nav station panel.
02
Place mics.
Weatherproof microphones where your crew talks — cockpit, helm, salon. PoE cameras where you need eyes. Bosun tells you where it can and can't hear during setup.
03
Say "Bosun."
That's it. It auto-discovers your instruments, learns your network, and starts answering. Ask anything. Or wait — it'll tell you what matters on its own.

Your voiceprint and faceprint never leave your boat.

Voiceprints and faceprints are processed and stored on your boat — never uploaded, never shared. Camera vision, instrument monitoring, and security run entirely on your vessel's hardware. Voice AI uses encrypted cloud services for natural-language responses; offline fallback keeps the system usable off the grid.

Common questions.

NMEA 2000 is the standard digital network on most boats built after 2005. It connects instruments like depth, wind, speed, AIS, and engine data on a single backbone. If your boat has digital instruments, chances are it has NMEA 2000.
Yes. Core processing runs on your boat — voiceprints, faceprints, camera feeds, instrument reads, wake word detection. Voice transcription and advanced AI responses use encrypted cloud services when connected. If you lose connectivity, Bosun continues running instrument queries, camera monitoring, anchor watch, and speaker recognition locally.
Any vessel with an NMEA 2000 backbone. Sailboats, powerboats, trawlers, monohulls, catamarans, multihulls — if it has the bus, it works.
Weatherproof microphones in every zone. Say "Bosun" and ask anything — depth, wind speed, engine temp, AIS contacts. Response in under one second.
Your voiceprints and faceprints are processed and stored on your boat — never uploaded, never shared. Camera footage stays on the device. Voice transcription and AI responses use encrypted cloud services when connected.
The hardware unit, microphones, PoE network switch (T2+), mounting hardware, and NMEA 2000 connection kit. T2 includes 3 AI cameras. T3 includes 5 AI cameras. All tiers include 6 months of Pro free.
